1. Simple Present Tense
Simple present tense adalah satu dari tiga jenis verb tenses dalam bahasa Inggris yang memiliki dua kegunaan. Pertama, simple present tense digunakan untuk menceritakan suatu tindakan atau kegiatan yang sedang terjadi sekarang. Kedua, simple present tense digunakan untuk menceritakan suatu tindakan atau kejadian yang terjadi secara teratur atau tanpa henti. Nah, karena hal ini, present terkadang disebut indefinite atau tidak memiliki batasan. Contoh kalimatnya adalah:
Example 1: Action is happening right now
“I feel sad! Johnny hates cupcakes”
Example 2: Habitual actions
“Sora practices the dance every day”
Example 3: Simple present verb negative
“Amiya does not want to share the cupcakes”
Example 4: Simple present “to be” verb negative
“I am not a cupcakes lover, but Amiya sure is”
Example 5: How to ask a question
“Do you know how to make good cupcakes?”
2. Simple Past Tense
Selain simple present tense, Simple past tense juga merupakan satu dari tiga jenis verb tenses dalam bahasa Inggris. Namun, berbeda dengan simple present tense, bentuk kalimat simple past tense digunakan dalam menceritakan suatu peristiwa yang sudah terjadi di masa lampau. Selanjutnya, kita bisa menggunakan simple past tense untuk menceritakan perasaan seseorang tentang suatu peristiwa di masa lalu. Berikut adalah contoh kalimat tense ini:
Example 1: To tell someone’s past experience
“Hiro entered a singing contest”
Example 2: To tell someone’s feeling about their past experience
“Hiro was proud of his singing victory”
Example 3: Simple past tense (regular verb)
“Mari cooked ramen yesterday”
Example 4: Simple past tense (irregular verb)
“Their marriage was built on trust“
Example 5: Simple past negative
“Hiro did not brag too much about his singing skills”
Example 6: Simple past negative for the verbs “to be”
“The second–place winner was not as satisfied as Hiro”
Example 7: Ask question in the simple past tense
“Did Hirowin the gold medal fairly?”
Example 8: Ask question in the simple past tense with the verbs “to be”
“Were people asking a lot of questions?”
